Sidebar and split.
The sidebar
⌘\ shows a floating sidebar over the margin, so the column you're reading never moves. It lists:
- All, Pinned and Untagged
- your tags, as a tree; a tag counts everything under it
- your people
:settings, at the bottom

Paperkites remembers whether the sidebar is shown and which tags are open.
Split
Split the window into two columns, to read one note while you write another.

The column you're not in dims. Nothing is framed.
